bandwidth

Bandwidth is the rate at which digital information (data) can be transferred. A standard measurement is bits-per-second (bps) or kilobits per second (kbs).

Consumer modems generally operate at either 28.8kbs or 56kps.

Bandwidth is affected by the data transfer medium (telephone line, cable etc.) and host server speed.
