The status bar is the panel at the base of the browser window. When the cursor is over a hyperlink, the status bar displays information about the destination: either the address (URL) of the destination webpage, or the name of the file to be downloaded.
The content displayed in the status bar can be controlled using JavaScript. For example, it can be used to show a description of the destination webpage, instead of the URL.
